Product Development Coordinator

smartdept. is searching for a Product Development Coordinator for a luxury skincare client located in New York, NY. The ideal candidate will come with 1-2+ years of relevant experience. This is a full-time, hybrid (2 days/week in-office), direct-hire opportunity. Compensation for this position is expected to be $55,000 - $60,000 annually depending on experience level and fit. 

This person will support product and packaging development initiatives in daily tasks and project-specific requirements concerning new product launches and maintaining and updating existing products. Occasionally, local travel to contract manufacturers is necessary. This position reports to the Director of Product Development.

What You’ll Do: 

  • Understand the development calendar and assist with ensuring key development deadlines are met.
  • Assist in competitive product and ingredient research and prepare product development requests.
  • Collaborate proactively with contract manufacturers and suppliers to fulfill submission and packaging sample requirements while maintaining brand aesthetics and standards. 
  • Work closely with brand marketing to address pre-launch sample needs and comps, overseeing lab requests and execution.
  • Receive and evaluate ongoing production batches from contract manufacturers to ensure they meet brand standards and specifications. 
  • Support in-house regulatory needs on documentation requests and ensure proper filing/ document control.
  • Maintain product dossier and update accordingly.
  • Maintain the product/sample closet and storage of packaging and batch standards.
  • Join internal team meetings and external supplier meetings, taking comprehensive notes and issuing recaps for weekly lab status.
  • Support in consumer service and quality internal investigations alongside cross functional team members.
  • Coordination of testing and product samples.
  • Facilitate shipping/ receiving of product and testing samples.

 

What You’ll Need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree – Marketing, Business Administration or specialized relevancy in cosmetics and fragrance marketing and development
  • Relevant internships or 1-2 years of product development experience in beauty
  • Comprehensive understanding of skin physiology 
  • Basic understanding of cosmetic ingredients and their function
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)Interest and/or background in beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands strongly desired
