Packaging Designer

smartdept. is searching for a Packaging Designer for a CPG client located in Seattle, WA. The ideal candidate will come with 3+ years of experience in designing print and packaging materials for CPG clients. This is a part-time (~10-15 hours per month), fully remote, ongoing contract opportunity. Compensation for this position is expected to be $40-$55/hour depending on experience level and fit. 

What You’ll Do: 

• Design and develop print and packaging concepts for a variety of products, ensuring functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal.
• Collaborate with marketing, product development, and manufacturing teams to create packaging that meets specifications and market needs.
• Conduct market research and analyze competitor packaging to identify trends and opportunities for differentiation.
• Prepare detailed design specifications and technical drawings for production.
• Ensure all packaging designs comply with industry regulations and sustainability standards.
• Create prototypes and mock-ups to test functionality and visual impact.
• Present design concepts and rationale to stakeholders, incorporating feedback into final designs.
• Stay updated on packaging technologies and materials to continuously improve designs and processes.
• Assist in managing project timelines and deliverables to ensure timely completion of packaging projects.

What You’ll Need: 

• 3+ years of experience in packaging design.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Strong portfolio showcasing innovative packaging designs.
• Excellent understanding of print production processes and materials.
